Workshop 4: Active Biomatter
Timeslot: Wednesday, April 3, 2019 - 10:00am to 12:00pm
Room: Yakima 1
Active Biomatter: In general, active matter encompasses any natural or synthetic materials, which are at a non-equilibrium state and exhibit autonomous machinery activities (e.g., propulsion, pumping, actuation, transformation) in response to external stimuli in spontaneous manner. These materials are considered as a promising candidates for future biomaterials and are increasingly garnering attention in biomedical studies. To date, however, only piecewise research activities have been reported and few attempts have been made to put experts together and discuss a strategy to catalyze the use of active matter in biological applications. Therefore, this workshop may offer a good opportunity to allow a new generation of trainees and researchers in biomaterials to witness current advancements and future perspectives in active biomaterials.
